Problems and Remedy in Solving Problem of SWOP Patients in Field Practice of the Agency

SWOP Patients in Field Practice-Problems and Remedy
Problems in Field Practice of the Agency:
There is no end of problems in this problem-oriented world. There are always some varied limitations in every agency. But, it can be said without any hesitation that administrative problem in Non-government Service-providing institution is very less than Government Service-providing institution. So, the rate of problems in these institutions is less in number. Besides, working in SWOP as my Field Work Practice Agency, I found some problems and these are the following:
  1. There is no residential doctor in SWOP hostel for all time look after of the patients. So, in emergency the patients had to face problems.
  2. There is no special arrangement in SWOP for interviewing the patients. So, for lack confidentiality, sometimes the patients give wrong information.
  3. According to the project manager, they feel staff inadequacy when the number of patients increases.
  4. It could not be possible for two to three Child Care Officers to solve the daily problems of SWOP patients.
  5. There is no teacher for the continuation of study of the SWOP staying patients.
  6. The money that comes from World Vision Bangladesh and it ADP’s to SWOP as the treatment cost is insufficient.
  7. There is no teacher for the continuation of study of the SWOP staying patients.
  8. There is no special arrangement in SWOP for raising or building up consciousness among the patients.
  9. It is not possible for a nurse to provide medical help to every patient in emergency.
  10. It takes time for the allotment of money for treatment cost. So, for the treatment of emergency patients it creates a great problem.
  11. The building where SWOP is situated is not as large as necessity. So, for the lack of sufficient space, it could not be possible to implement many steps. Besides, the ventilation of the building is not appropriate.
  12. The recreational facilities in SWOP are insufficient.
  13. There is only two microbuses for providing medical service to the SWOP patients. So, in case of emergency patients had to face transport problem.
Common Problems of SWOP Patients:
In my sixty (60) working days of field work practice in SWOP, the common problems that I identified through interviewing and keen observation of the SWOP patients are as follows:

Economic Problem:
Almost all the SWOP coming patients are poor. So, it is not possible for them to pay a visit or consult to good efficient doctors bearing the treatment cost by themselves. As such, in many times they loss their normal activity for the lack of proper treatment or maltreatment and became the burden of the society.

Ignorance:
Majority of our country people are not conscious about diseases. The rate of this type of ignorance is high especially among the poor. Still they are depended to ayurvedic practitioner, quack, charm etc in any kind of physical disorder. But, these elongate their problems rather reducing.

Family Problem:
An ailing person hampers the normal flow of a family. SWOP provides till medical help not only for the children, but also parents and their relatives in their need too. Many aged female SWOP patients are misjudged by their husbands only for their illness. Again ailing kids do create unrest in family.

Mental Problem:
Every member of a family remains in stress and affliction with a sick child. Females feels insecurity and became fearful. Besides, an elderly person thinks himself as the burden of the society. Ail these mental problem gives birth to absolute frustration in men.

Callousness of Local ADP's:
The preliminary treatment of sponsored child and community of many ADPs are conducted commonly by the local ADP doctors or in local hospitals and clinics under the concerning ADP supervision. But, in many times when the carelessness of ADP and maltreatment of doctors cause the disease complicated, then the patient is referred to SWOP. So, the disease which could be cured quickly by getting proper modern treatment facilities takes a long time to be cured. In many times, the patients had to loss their limbs or the disease could not be cured completely. This type of problem is very much visible which I felt extremely in my field work practice in SWOP.

Problem In Getting Monetary Help From ADPs:
There are many patients whose treatment cost is very high. In this aspect, SWOP could not take any concrete decision regarding the Treatment as the concerning ADP could not be capable of funding. If SWOP authority took any decision, they may fall in trouble. Again, some patients are needed to be treated in abroad. This takes time which may be risky for patients.

Treatment Problem in Medical Institutions:
The patients, their attendants, Child Care Officers and the trainee students like us had to face many problems in getting medical service in various government hospitals of Dhaka city. The main barrier of getting medical service in government hospitals are administrative complication, misbehaviors of fourth class employee, internal conflicts among doctors and nurse, inadequate of hospital beds etc. Especially, it takes two to three months of time to be admitted into hospital and getting a bed which is very much troublesome for the attendants of patients and of SWOP authority.

Remedy in Solving Problem:
  1. The number of toilets for SWOP patients should be increased and should always keep them neat and clean.
  2. Two more vehicles should be arranged with the current one for the SWOP patient’s treatment management.
  3. The arrangement of nameplates or monograms for Trainee Social Worker should be made.
  4. A fulltime well-trained teacher should be appointed for the continuation of study SWOP patients.
  5. The arrangement of better treatment for the patients with complications should be measured.
  6. An all time serving physician for SWOP hostel should be recruited.
  7. The number of indoor games for patients recreation should be increased.
  8. The number of nurse required to be increased.
  9. Specific rehabilitation program should be taken for helping the patients in economic and social rehabilitation.
  10. The relation of SWOP to Ministry of Social Welfare should be stronger that they could get monetary help.
  11. The meals of the patients should be rich and should be served according to their disease.
  12. The number of beds in SWOP hospitals should be increased.
  13. The number of Child Care Officers needed to be increased.
  14. The building where SWOP is situated is small in size compared to its necessity. So, arrangements should be made of increasing number of buildings.
